My girlfriend never ceases to amaze me. She’s always bitching about the fact that we do not spend enough quality time together, but whenever I decide to give in to her rants, she wants to switch on Flavor Flav and his VH1 circus show. I mean who really gives a damn about whether this troll finds love or not? I certainly don’t. So imagine me having to give my girl some space when she’s watching this fool. Unbelievable.

The turning of the new year is a time for a new beginning. Unfortunately, January is also the time when the tax season begins in earnest. 1099-MISC filings are on of the first things that come up.
1099 tax forms are known as information reporting forms. They are used to essentially collect data by the IRS on who is paying what to whom. If you received dividends during the year from a company, you’ll receive a 1099 for those dividends.
While there are different types of 1099s, the 1099-MISC is the form that gives the most people the most trouble. (more…)

One really wonders the selection process for getting a job with some employment agencies. They hired some temps to work at my firm who were supposedly screened by the employment agency and there is one woman in particular who definitely should not be there. The buzz in the office is that this temp is not only wasting company’s time but their money as well. Unfortunately they put her to work on the desk that is closest to me and if I had a dollar for every time that she approached me for help, I would be a VERY rich man. That this woman should be interrupting myself and other staff and still get paid to do so is downright crazy. I mean she’s been in our office for over a month. You would think she would “get it” by now. Sheesh!!!

When trying to qualify for the earned income tax credit you or your spouse must satisfy the age test if filing a joint tax return. You can not be a dependent of another taxpayer, and are not a qualifying child of another taxpayer.
If married and filing a joint tax return you must include your social security number on your IRS tax return and that of your spouse. Married couples who file separate returns are not eligible for the earned income credit. If you are married, but your spouse did not live in your home for the last six months of the year, you may be able to file as head of household and take the credit. If you are married and file a joint return, you meet this rule if at least one spouse works and has earned income. (more…)

With two weeks of time off approaching from my job, I’m seriously thinking about learning at least one sporting event before I head back to work. Since I like the sea a whole lot, I think I’m gonna look into taking scuba diving lessons. To see life at the bottom of the sea would truly be a pleasure. I’d take my fiance along, but she’s afraid of the water. Talk about opposites attract!

If you thought the High School Musical tv movie is phenomenal, wait until you see the ice-skating version of it. My girlfriend and I took her nieces to see the show when they came to town recently and the girls were beside themselves with the performance. And although I’m not a big fan of HSM, I gotta say that it was well cherographed and well worth the 25 dollars that we paid. The only problem that I had was having to pay four dollars for a HSM coloring book. That was just wack.

Many people look at accounting and say, “Accounting doesn’t make a lot of sense.” Well I hate to be bold but there is no better way to say, “Hey I’m a moron, I shouldn’t be running a business.” Accounting is the story of your business and you should know not only how to read that story but how to tell the story. There are a lot of complex accounting issues, they can be a nightmare. The chances are that you will never deal with them. Don’t worry about the complex stuff, focus on the larger aspec of accounting. You should be able to understand ninety-nine percent of all accounting issues with just a basic understanding of the principles and constraints. (more…)
